Jeff Albert is a trombonist and improviser based in New Orleans. He leads the Jeff Albert Quintet and co-leads the Lucky 7s with Jeb Bishop. Lakefront Digital released the Lucky 7s first CD, Farragut, in September of 2006, in conjunction with their Chicago Jazz Fest performance. Other recent recordings include One, a quartet CD of original compositions, and Duets Vol. 1, which is a recording of improvised duets with guitarist Ed Barrett. Jeff can also be heard with George Porter Jr. and the Runnin’ Pardners, Michael Ray and the Cosmic Krewe, the Naked Orchestra, the New Orleans New Music Ensemble, and Quantum Blender.
Jeff writes the music and arts blog Scratch My Brain, and is on the faculty of Xavier University of Louisiana, Loyola University New Orleans, and the Music Academy for the Performings Arts. Jeff has degrees from Loyola University New Orleans, and the University of New Orleans.
He has had the pleasure of performing with with a variety of musical groups, including Stevie Wonder, Bonnie Raitt, The Funk Brothers, Wardell Quezergue, Dr. John, Ronnie Milsap, The Temptations, Lou Rawls, The Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, and the New Orleans Opera.
